Water supplies in rural Northumberland will be protected by investment to upgrade parts of a remote water treatment works.
The £700,000 investment by Northumbrian Water at Allenheads Water Treatment Works (WTW) will include the replacement of a large tank that has reached the end of its operational life.
The work, which will be carried out by the water company’s partner, Stonbury, will take around six months to complete, with site establishment and survey work beginning in April.
Hedley Young, Northumbrian Water’s Project Manager, said: “This is a significant investment in water supplies for customers in one of our most rural communities.
“All of the work is set to take place either on, or next to, our site, and we are working with Stonbury and local landowners to ensure that we can complete this important work ahead of the winter months, avoiding the impact of the heavy weather this can bring in such a remote area.”
