A funding pot is available for businesses in and around Eye, Suffolk, who want to save water.
Essex & Suffolk Water is accepting applications to the Business Fund from companies who fall within the water company’s Hartismere area, who are looking at ways in which they can become more water efficient.
This is because the demand for water is rising in Suffolk, but the amount of available water remains the same. This is due to a number of reasons, including population growth and climate change.
It is why the water company has had to introduce a non-domestic moratorium, preventing businesses from taking additional water from the system until 2033, while alternative water sources are put in place.
Tim Wagstaff, Lead Water Efficiency Manager, said: “We're working hard to reduce water demand and secure supply now, and in the future, which is why we're inviting businesses in the Hartismere area to apply for our Water Saving in Business Fund.
“So, if you are a business, retailer, or water conservation provider working in or supporting the area, we would love from you. Do you have a project that can help a business save water, but you need some funding to make it happen, or, do you have an idea but need to speak to experts, such as a consultant, to see if it could work in reality? We’d love to hear about it.”
Your project must:
- Be within the Essex & Suffolk Water Hartismere water resource zone and deliver water savings.
- Save mains tap water and start to demonstrate a measurable, sustainable reduction in water use (litres/day saved).
- Include monthly project updates and provide a written case study/report at the end of the project.
Your project will be assessed based on a number of factors, including, innovation, cost per litre of water saved, amount of water saved, wider benefits, such as community, social, or environmental, and others.
The closing date for applications is 7 March 2025.
