Northumbrian Water Group (NWG) has signed the Construct Zero Five-Point Plan, to help meet the UK’s target for Net Zero by 2050.
The plan, developed by the construction sector, was launched on 29th April and progressive organisations including NWG were invited to be co-signatories of the plan.
The UK Government has made a legislative commitment to attain Net Zero emissions by 2050, and it is recognised that the construction sector must change at pace to be part of the solution.
NWG is committed to delivering an ambitious capital programme of £3.6bn between 2025 and 2030. Working towards the Construct Zero pledges will help offset the carbon and environmental impact of this programme to 2030 and beyond.
The plan has been created, developed alongside the Construction Leadership Council (CLC), the Infrastructure Client Group (ICG) and the Infrastructure and Project Authority (IPA). The purpose is to create a clear demand for the transition to net zero within the construction industry.
Each organisation that signs up to the plan is expected to set out commitments for five areas; contract for low carbon, diesel free sites, low carbon concrete, green steel and effective measures of carbon emissions (PAS 2080) with the level of ambition decided by each organisation. By signing up to this plan NWG is clear in its commitment to net zero within the construction sector.
The areas outlined in the Five-Point Plan strongly align with NWG’s existing strategies, including the commitments made within its Environment Strategy, published in 2023.
