At NWG, we take care to protect and improve the environment in everything we do, leading by example.
Our customers have told us that they would like us to work with others to deliver wider improvements beyond just water quality to the areas of rivers and beaches that they use.
Through our analysis we have identified thousands of kilometres of water environments which are accessible to customers. We define these areas as bluespaces and have an ambition to improve 250km by 2025.
Bluespaces is allowing us to invest around £1m from 2020-25 in catchment activities and enhancements. Since 2020 we have delivered almost 130 km of improvements to the water environment, and by 2025 we hope to have delivered around 250 km of improvements.
Working with others to deliver bluespaces improvements allows us to go ‘above and beyond’ our business-as-usual activities across the company. Through Bluespaces, we are working towards two of our ambitious goals - leading in catchment management and having the best rivers and beaches in the country.
